In short

The 14-Day Ayurvedic Massage Training at School Lama is an extended hands-on course in Rishikesh, India covering the same foundations as the 10-day programme with substantially more supervised practice time. It runs for 14 days and costs ₹30,000. Beginners and international students are welcome.

About this course

The difference between knowing a massage sequence and being able to deliver it is repetition. The 14-day course exists for students who want that repetition before they work on anyone outside a classroom.

The techniques are the foundations of Ayurvedic bodywork — Abhyanga, head and foot work, marma points, oil selection. The extra four days go into supervised practice, longer full-length sessions, and building the stamina to hold good technique from the first stroke to the last.

Herbs and oils are selected for the person on the table — which is why the course begins with constitution, not technique.

Who this course is for

  • Beginners who would rather not rush the foundations
  • Anyone intending to actually practise on others after the course, not just on family
  • Students travelling a long distance who want the fuller programme while in Rishikesh
  • Therapists who want time to unlearn habits from a different massage modality

What you will learn

Each day pairs a focused theory session with long practical blocks. The later part of the course leans heavily toward full-length supervised treatments rather than isolated techniques.

  1. Foundations of Ayurveda

Panchamahabhuta, the Vata-Pitta-Kapha dosha framework, and Prakriti as individual constitution — covered as the practical basis for choosing oils, pressure and pace rather than as abstract theory.

  2. Abhyanga — full-body oil massage

The core technique, taught in stages and then rehearsed repeatedly at full length. You learn the complete head-to-foot sequence, stroke direction, unbroken contact, and how to hold rhythm across a whole session.

  3. Shiroabhyanga — head and scalp massage

Warm-oil work through the scalp, neck and shoulders, taught both as part of a full treatment and as a standalone session you can offer on its own.

  4. Padabhyanga — foot massage

Traditional foot technique including the marma points of the feet, with enough practice time to make it reliable rather than merely familiar.

  5. Marma points in practice

A fuller treatment of marma than the shorter course allows: locating the principal points, applying measured pressure, and integrating them into a full-body sequence instead of treating them as a separate add-on.

  6. Oils, herbs and preparation

Base oils and herbal preparations, how they are warmed, handled and stored, and how the treatment room is set up — draping, hygiene, temperature and timing.

  7. Sequencing a complete treatment

How to plan a full session from the moment a guest arrives: reading what is in front of you, adapting the sequence, managing timing, and closing a treatment properly.

  8. Body mechanics and practitioner longevity

Posture, table height, using body weight instead of arm strength, and protecting your wrists, thumbs and lower back — with enough supervised repetition for good habits to actually take hold.

  9. Extended supervised practice

The reason to choose the longer course. Repeated full-length sessions with the instructor watching and correcting, so that technique becomes something your hands do rather than something you have to recall.

What this course is — and is not

  • This is an in-depth foundation course in technique, not a medical qualification and not training as an Ayurvedic physician.
  • The curriculum covers the same core techniques as the 10-day course; the additional value is practice time, not extra subjects.
  • You will practise on fellow students throughout, giving and receiving treatments.
